While many continue to scoff at those making efforts to protect the environment, global disease such as cancer rates is increasing exponentially. It is absolute folly to believe that pollution and contamination will not affect the human species. Mercury contamination around the world is increasing. There are many warnings against eating specific fish due to the high amount of mercury. In the United States food recalls have become common.
Factory farms are big business and animals are kept in horrible conditions. The methane gas released in these farms is hazardous. Many communities around these farms experience above average cancer rates. The run off from these farms contaminate rivers and crops.
While many people have joined the fight to save the environment by reducing their carbon footprint, there are just as many that still debate the issue of global warming. Weather patterns continue to change and become more bizarre and sea levels continue to rise due to the melting of polar ice caps. Regardless of whether this is a natural cycle as some scientists claim; we would serve ourselves best by not adding to the problem.
The need to save and protect our environment is not simply to save a few trees and animal species. It is the need to save ourselves and future generations. The lack of respect for the environment, in which we live, may result in our demise. We may be killing our selves as well as other species.
At some point, we must all recognize that we share a fragile ecosystem. If we continue to destroy it, we will eventually destroy our selves. We must realize we are a part of this fragile eco system not separate from it. Millions of people are learning to conserve energy and utilize products that do not contain hazardous chemicals. Going green is a developing lifestyle that will benefit your health and your environment.
