Problems Associated With Pet Shelters

There are many pet shelters that have cropped up in many cities. These are the places where many of the lost dogs and cats are given a transit home till they get a new owner. There are other uses of the pet shelters too. There are many people who may have pets in their house, but may need to travel to a far off place for a few days or weeks. These people who need to travel cannot afford to take the pets with them. In this scenario, the pet shelters are the places where the pet dogs, cats and other animals are placed till the owner is back.

The pet shelters will clean the animals and feed them. The pet shelter is like a new home for the animals till they are united again with their owners. Though the pet shelters are a stop gap arrangement for the pets to have shelter, there are several problems that can arise by placing the pets in pet shelters.

The first and the most common problem is that of the spread of diseases. Though the pet shelters are all clean and maintained well, there is a very high risk of infections and diseases in the pets. This is because of the fact that the pets will harbor a disease in them for a long time and be carriers of the disease too. Though they may not be affected by the disease, there may be other animals that have a lesser immunity and can be affected sooner. This can even cause problems like mass death of pets that are sheltered in a pet shelter. In spite of this problem, many people still leave their pets in these animal shelters because they have no other option and the love for their pets is so much that they have no option but to leave them in the pet shelters.
