One Small Step for Animal Kind

It is a sad fact that in spite of the technological strides the world has made there are still many at risk animals.  From endangered animals to over populations, there are thousands of at risk pets.  Luckily, there are people in the world dedicated to eradicating this problem.  Pet shelters, support groups and advocate groups work diligently every day to protect the animals of the world.

Pet shelters, often considered the ‘bottom rung’ of animal advocacy perform a vital function in the world of animal rights:  the feed, care for and place many of the unwanted or abused animals found throughout the country.  Many work primarily on a donation basis.  Anyone interested in animal rights is encouraged to start first with a pet shelter.

Animal support groups are available as well.  Organizations that rescue abused animals are a primary example of a support group for animals.  They perform another vital function in the animal world by removing the sickest and most damaged animals, often from their owners, and working to rehabilitate them and move them into a safe and loving environment.  These organizations are always in need of not only financial donations, but foster families as well.

Finally, advocate groups exist to educate the public about abused or endangered animals.  Many of these groups have big budgets and star power, but their goal is much the same as pet shelters and support groups:  saving animals.

Saving the animals of the world is a big idea but it starts with a small step:  joining an advocacy or support group or supporting a local pet shelter.
