There are many species of animals today. Depending upon the climate and geological type, they are scattered around the world. While some animals like camels survive in deserts, others like polar bears live near the polar ice regions. These animals will have their body adapted to their natural habitat.
There are a large number of animals in different regions. But their overall number is comparatively less than those of previous times. This is because most of the animals are hunted down. Some have already become extinct. So to prevent this, the governments around the world have tagged the animals whose numbers are very less as endangered species.
Endangered species are those which are about to become extinct. Some species of elephants, tigers, lions, crocodiles, wolves and other animals are on the verge of extinction. These animals are hunted down for meat, sport, fur, bones and other parts. Since various parts of these animals are used to make costly artifacts, they are hunted down by poachers. Many animals die also due to various diseases.
To prevent further loss of animal life due to poachers and diseases, government has taken some measures and passed some laws to protect them. Hunting and poaching is punishable. Strict laws with several years of imprisonment are passed to discourage such poachers. Heavy fines are also laid so that the animals remain untouched. Various reservoirs and wildlife parks are made.
This is done for two reasons. First thing is that it prevents further animal hunting as heavy security will be laid around these parks. The second thing is that the government can personally monitor the growth of these animals and in case of any disease, it can treat these animals. This also helps them to know the nature of these animals and through proper research can breed these animals to increase their overall population count.
