Bears as Animals

There are many types of animals that exist on the planet Earth and one of the types of animals is the bear. Bears are carnivores whose history began 50 million years ago as the miacid, which were small snouted, weasel-like animals. It was not until 38 million years that the bear began to take its own evolutionary path with the first creature that was a true bear being the Ursavus. The modern day bear that we know today appeared on the Earth between five and ten million years ago. Pandas depart somewhat from the typically bear in that they are vegetarians while polar bears remain carnivorous but learned to swim as a means for finding food.
The bear as one of the animals can reach a height of ten feet when standing on its hind legs and can weigh anywhere between 55 and 1500 pounds depending on the particular kind of bear. They are extremely powerful animals that usually walk in a sauntering fashion but can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour when going after their prey. Most species are either black or brown with long fur with the exception of the panda with its black-and-white skin color and the polar bear which is white. Most have mouths large enough to accommodate 40 to 42 teeth and can climb very well.
In order to help them find natural prey as potential food sources, they have a highly developed sense of smell which is at least 100 times more sensitive than that of the human being. They are very resourceful animals with an intelligence that comes from a well-developed brain. Despite their size and weight, they have an agility and the speed to conquer their prey and jaws and teeth that can tear flesh easily. The bears that are carnivorous animals eat primarily meat and not many vegetables which shows in the lack rear molar development.
