The idea of animal advocacy groups is greatly misunderstood. Many people assume that groups dedicated to animal welfare are the only types of animal advocacy groups. This is simply not true. In fact, there are many different types of animal advocacy groups acting in the United States. While some are primarily designed to help control animal abuse and to protect the welfare of animals in this country there are other types of animal advocacy groups as well.
One of the most popular types of animal advocacy groups is rescue groups. These groups work diligently to ensure that the animals that have poor living conditions, have been abused or are simply in need of a better living situation are rehabilitated and adopted into loving families. Greyhound rescue groups are perhaps most well known of this type of group.
There are also many advocacy groups whose primary goal is research into various forms of cloning and genetic modification. There are actually a large number of pet owners and researchers dedicated to exploring the idea of cat cloning. Their goal is developing the technology to safely clone pets.
On other large group of advocates are celebrity based groups. These groups utilize the popularity and visibility of one or more celebrities to promote their animal agenda. PETA is perhaps most effective in this arena and utilizes high profile celebrities such as Pamela Anderson in their efforts. While they might be the most highly recognized organization there are hundreds of celebrity based organizations who aim to promote the welfare and health of animals in our country.
Animal advocacy groups all aimed to protect animals. Whether a group promotes neutering and spaying, rescues abused animals or educates the public about dangers species, animal advocacy groups provide a valuable service to our animal citizens.
